Gracehill Village Environmental Association

A packed Bates Room hosted the Annual General Meeting  on 7th May 2013 in Cennick Hall. The audience watched a review of the work done over the past year and were told of plans for the coming year, including an expanded  flower bed at the entrance of the village.

The audience then watched a presentation by Dr David Johnston, who outlined plans by Gracehill Old School Trust to restore the old shop in the village. This unique, historic building at 6 Montgomery Street has been acquired by the Trust and will be used in tandem with the Irish Landmark Trust to provide accommodation facilities in the village, as well as preserving the shop as it was in the early 1800’s. It is hoped to complete this project over the next 2-3 years, delivering a sustainable improvement to the tourist infrastructure in the Ballymena area.

Key dates for 2013:-

22nd June –  Village Fair

July/August – Best Kept Village judging takes place

14th September – European Heritage Open Day

The Village Environmental Committee expressed their thanks to all who helped deliver the work through the Tuesday Club, and to Ballymena Borough Council for their continued support, both practical and financial.
